Straddle carrier is a kind of high-efficiency mechanical equipment specially used for short-distance container transportation and stacking operation, and it is the container handling magic weapon. It adopts portal frame structure, which can cross over containers, and realize precise lifting and stacking of containers through the hydraulic lifting system equipped with container spreader. The equipment has excellent maneuverability and integrated traverse function to realize multi-functional operation.
It can not only complete the horizontal transportation task from the quay front to the yard, but also perform the stacking, loading and unloading of containers in 2-3 layers of the yard. In addition, its special structural design enables it to cross both the container column and the railroad track, which significantly improves the efficiency of container operation. The straddle carrier is widely used in ports, terminals, railroad hubs, highway freight stations and large-scale warehousing facilities.
The straddle carrier system consists of key components such as the frame, lifting mechanism, wheels and tires, cab, and engine or motor.
Straddle Carrier Parts:
Frame: The primary structure that straddles the load, providing stability and support.
Lifting mechanism: Hydraulic or electric system used to raise and lower containers or other cargo.
Wheels and tires: Specially designed straddle carrier tires, provide traction, stability, and load-bearing capacity. It is durable, resistant to wear and tear, and suitable for various terrains.
Cab: Operator’s cab with controls for precise operation.
Engine or motor: Power source, which can be diesel, electric or hybrid.
Container straddle carriers are mainly divided into two categories: specialized and general-purpose according to their scope0 of application.
General-purpose straddle carrier with multi-functionality, can flexibly adapt to different sizes of container loading and unloading needs, not only can efficiently deal with 20-foot containers, but also can easily cope with 40-foot containers, suitable for multi-specification containers mixed operation scenarios.
Specialized straddle carriers, on the other hand, are designed for a single size, specifically for the loading and unloading of 20-foot or 40-foot containers, and usually have higher efficiency and stability in specific scenarios.
